Learn about your options

Explore three common ways life insurance may be used.

IUL Indexed Universal Life Insurance Learn more ↓

What is it? IUL is permanent life insurance that combines a death benefit with the potential to build cash value.

How can it grow? Credited interest may be linked to the performance of a market index, but the money is not invested directly in that index. Policies can include floors, caps, participation rates, charges and other terms.

Why consider it? Some people use IUL when they want lifelong protection plus an additional source of cash value. Actual performance depends on policy design, costs, premiums and credited rates.

Retirement Retirement Planning Options Learn more ↓

How does it relate to retirement? Some permanent life insurance policies build cash value that may complement other sources of retirement savings.

Accessing cash value: depending on the policy, cash value may be accessed through withdrawals or policy loans. When a policy is properly structured and applicable requirements are maintained, cash value may be accessed through withdrawals and policy loans that can be received income-tax-free.

Important: this is not a traditional retirement account. Loans accrue interest, and loans or withdrawals can reduce cash value and the death benefit. A policy that lapses with outstanding loans may also create tax consequences.

Family Protection Financial protection for loved ones Learn more ↓

What does it protect? Life insurance can provide a death benefit to beneficiaries when the insured person dies.

What can it help with? Funds may help cover household expenses, a mortgage or rent, debts, education, final expenses and other family financial needs.

The right coverage is personal: the amount and type of insurance depend on income, obligations, dependents, budget and long-term goals.

Features, costs, availability and results vary by policy, insurer and individual circumstances. A licensed agent can explain available options; specific results are not guaranteed.

IUL educational calculator

See how consistent contributions can add up over time, and learn how an IUL may combine life coverage with potential cash value. No registration or personal details.

Important: Growth figures are mathematical examples; the coverage amount estimates family needs, NOT insurer-issued benefits or quotes. None are guaranteed policy values. Shown charges are hypothetical, NOT insurer prices.

Total planned contributions$48,000
Gross mathematical example (before all costs)$65,371

These first figures show total payments and mathematical growth before costs. They are NOT IUL policy values or returns.

Consistent contributions can add up over time

Three compound-interest examples before any costs. These are math illustrations, not forecasts of IUL returns.

0% growth$48,000
3% hypothetical$65,371
5% hypothetical$81,161

These figures are NOT IUL cash values or money available to withdraw. The rates are not forecasts and exclude insurance costs, expenses, and possible surrender penalties; actual policy value may be substantially lower or zero.

What could your family receive if you die?

Compare two possible IUL death-benefit designs. Adjust hypothetical figures that are NOT tied to the monthly contribution above and do NOT represent approved coverage.

$250,000
$50,000
Option A · Level death benefit$250,000Generally pays the stated face amount; cash value is not a second separate check.
Option B · Increasing death benefit$300,000Simplified example: face amount + accumulated value. This design may cost more.

EDUCATIONAL EXAMPLE ONLY; NOT A QUOTE, FORECAST, OR GUARANTEE. Assumes an active policy, a covered death, and no outstanding loans. The accumulated value you select is NOT calculated from the growth examples above. Loans, withdrawals, and charges can lower the payout. Actual coverage and premiums require insurer underwriting and an official illustration.

How much life insurance might your family need?

Estimate how much life insurance your family may need. This is separate from the hypothetical payout comparison above and is NOT an approved policy benefit.

Illustrative additional coverage need, based on your inputs $500,000

Formula: income × years + debts + education − savings − existing coverage (minimum $0).

This is an estimate of potential family needs, NOT an IUL policy offer. Your monthly contribution above does not determine this amount; affordability, approval, health class, and coverage depend on an insurer. Cash value and the death benefit generally are NOT two separate amounts paid together.

Age and underwriting: Age when contributions end: 55. A “Standard” classification may affect real policy charges. This example has no insurer pricing tables and does not change amounts based on health.

Insurance costs can substantially reduce actual cash value. Open the charge example below to explore this risk.

How could insurance charges change the numbers?

Try your own assumptions for monthly charges that increase over time. These are NOT insurer prices. The remaining balance is a math experiment, not policy cash or surrender value.

$40
3%
Mathematical balance with hypothetical charges$48,307
Hypothetical charges deducted over time$12,898

For simplicity, this model credits a uniform monthly interest rate and subtracts simulated charges. It is not an IUL policy: insurance costs, death benefits, floors, surrender values and loans depend on the contract. Actual charges could be higher or lower.

Understand index caps and participation

Independent one-period example: credited interest is not necessarily the same as the index return. Real formulas vary, and caps may change.

25%
9%
100%
Credited interest using this simplified formula: 9%

Assumes a 0% floor for indexed interest credits; it does NOT protect the balance from charges. Does not include spreads, bonuses, dividends, or other possible formulas. This example does not feed the projection above.

The coverage target describes a need, not an offer of insurance. Neither age nor health constitutes a quote. This model cannot calculate real policy charges, cash value, surrender value, or insured death benefits. A constant rate does not represent actual annual indexed credits. Real policy value can be lower or zero, and extra premiums may be needed to prevent lapse. Request an official insurer illustration with guaranteed and non-guaranteed values to evaluate a policy.
